Standing Seam Roofing
Snap-lock and mechanical seam panels in 22 to 26 gauge steel and aluminum, Englert and additional profiles, finished in 70% PVDF. Multiple profile families to spec.
Standing seam fabricationSERVICES
Five lines of sheet metal fabrication under one roof: standing seam roofing, metal siding, edge metal, soffit and fascia, and custom sheet metal, cut to your drawings in our East Orange, NJ shop.
WHAT WE FABRICATE
Our sheet metal fabrication services cover five lines: standing seam roofing, metal siding and wall panels, edge metal and perimeter trim, soffit and fascia, and custom architectural sheet metal. Everything is cut and formed to your profile, gauge, color, and length, and nothing leaves the shop until it matches the spec on your drawings.
U Design is a certified installer of Englert and Sheffield systems, certified since 2019, so the metal is formed in a shop that has run these systems on real roofs. We buy Englert and Sheffield material, plus Drexmet coil, so the panels and trim we produce carry the manufacturer's finish warranty that comes with the coil. Fabrication leads the work: we cut and form the metal to your spec.
The shop has fabricated sheet metal to spec since 2014, with more than two decades of trade experience behind it, so the order is read by people who know how a profile behaves on a roof before it is cut.
Most of our work runs for roofing contractors and general contractors pulling a panel and trim package for a job, plus architects and building owners who need a specified profile and color fabricated to match. Whatever the role, you send the spec or the drawings and we fabricate to them.
Every job is different, so our work starts from your drawings rather than a fixed product list. Send a full panel and trim package or a single custom piece, and the same shop fabricates it to the same spec, finished to match the rest of the order. That holds whether the line is standing seam roofing, metal siding, edge metal, soffit and fascia, or a one-off brake-formed part: same coil, same coating, same color batch, so a later phase still lines up with the first.
WHAT WE FABRICATE
Snap-lock and mechanical seam panels in 22 to 26 gauge steel and aluminum, Englert and additional profiles, finished in 70% PVDF. Multiple profile families to spec.
Standing seam fabricationCoping, fascia, gravel stop, gutters, and perimeter edge metal, color-matched to the panels and cut to your dimensions so the perimeter reads as one system.
Edge metal fabricationConcealed and exposed-fastener wall panels in the same steel and aluminum as the roof line, color-matched across the whole envelope, architectural to industrial.
Metal siding fabricationCounter flashing, scuppers, leader heads, and one-off brake-formed trim, cut to your sketch, CAD file, or sample from the same finished stock as the order.
Custom sheet metalVented and solid metal soffit and matching fascia, color-matched to the roof, gutters, and trim so the eave reads as one system.
Soffit and fascia fabricationCOLORS AND FINISHES
Sheffield Metals, Englert, and Drexmet color lines. Over 50 standard architectural colors in 70% PVDF coatings (Kynar 500 and Hylar 5000), plus custom color matching. Ask for current swatches with your quote.
HOW WE FABRICATE TO SPEC
Send the profile, gauge, color, lengths, and quantities, or the drawings. We quote the panel and trim takeoff against them and flag anything that should be a special-color or special-substrate order.
We confirm the spec against your drawings and confirm the lead time on the current shop schedule. Nothing is cut until the order is approved.
Sheet metal fabrication runs on the roll formers and brakes to the confirmed spec, finished in the color and coating you chose, and checked against the order.
Pick up at the East Orange shop or take delivery inside our 150-mile radius. On-site forming is an option when a run is better rolled at the jobsite.
MATERIALS
Stock substrates cover most architectural work. Specialty substrates are special-order. We confirm availability and lead time at quote stage.
| Substrate | Common gauges / thicknesses | Typical use | Stock or special-order |
|---|---|---|---|
| Painted Galvalume steel | 22, 24, 26 gauge | Standard architectural roofing | Stock |
| Painted aluminum | .032 in, .040 in | Coastal corrosion resistance | Stock |
| Bare Galvalume | varies | Industrial, agricultural | Stock |
| Copper | 16, 20 oz typical | Premium architectural, historical | Special-order |
| Zinc | varies | Premium architectural, long service life | Special-order |

Specific stock levels and special-order availability vary. Confirm at quote stage with your project location and quantities.
RATINGS AND FINISHES
Wind uplift. The standing seam systems we fabricate are available in UL-90 rated assemblies.
The Class A surface burning classification that the standard coatings and substrates carry.
Kynar 500 and Hylar 5000 resin finishes, the architectural standard for fade and chalk resistance.
Reflective color options are available where a cool-roof or energy-code requirement applies.
Perimeter edge metal formed to the profile and anchorage the spec or code official requires.
Finishes carry the supplier's finish warranty, which comes with the coil we form.
WHAT TO SEND FOR AN ACCURATE QUOTE
The profile family you want, by name if you have it, plus the substrate and gauge: 22, 24, or 26 gauge steel, or .032 to .040 aluminum. If you are not sure which profile fits, send the slope and exposure and we help match it.
The 70% PVDF color or the Sheffield reference, the run lengths, and the panel and trim quantities. For an edge or siding package, note the linear footage so the takeoff prices cleanly against the drawings.
The jobsite address for a delivery price, and any rated assembly the spec calls for, such as a UL-90 roof or a specified perimeter edge detail. Flag those up front and we confirm we can meet them before anything is cut.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Mechanical seam profiles at 1, 1.5, and 2 inch seams (SS100, SS150, SSQ200) and a 1.5 inch snap-lock (SS450), rolled on our New Tech Machinery SSQ II MultiPro. Send the profile your drawings call for and we confirm we can roll it.
Snap-lock profiles lock together by hand on the roof, which suits most steeper slopes. Mechanical seam profiles are crimped closed after the panel is set, which tightens performance on low slopes. We fabricate both, so the choice follows your slope and exposure, not our equipment.
Painted Galvalume steel in 22, 24, and 26 gauge, and painted aluminum in .032 and .040. Copper, zinc, and bonderized steel are available as special-order substrates.
Yes. Our sheet metal fabrication covers coping, fascia, gravel stop, gutters, and custom flashing in the same finish as the panels, so the whole envelope matches. We form the perimeter edge to the detail your spec calls for.
Over 50 standard architectural colors in 70% PVDF coatings through our Sheffield Metals account, plus custom color matching. Send a metal sample or the original color name and we match a repair or a new phase to what is already on the building.
Yes. For larger jobs we offer on-site forming, so long-run panels are rolled at the jobsite and cut to field measurements instead of shipped full length.
The standing seam systems we fabricate are available in UL-90 rated assemblies, and we form perimeter edge metal to the profile and anchorage the spec or the code official requires. Send the assembly you need and we confirm we can meet it.
Yes. We can pull current Sheffield color references and, for a specified profile, the manufacturer spec sheet, so you confirm the look and the finish before the order goes to the floor.
Yes. Even if the original panels came from another shop, we fabricate the coping, flashing, or trim to match the existing color and profile, so an addition or repair blends into what is already up.
Send a dimensioned sketch, a PDF, or a CAD file in DWG or DXF. For a match, a photo and a physical sample of the existing metal help. The clearer the drawing, the faster the quote comes back.
Yes. We fabricate for architectural residential, light commercial, and low-slope commercial roofs. Send the slope and the assembly and we point you to the profile and seam type that fit.
SUPPLIER LINES
We form Englert, Sheffield, and Drexmet material to your spec, so each panel and trim package carries the manufacturer's finish warranty that comes with the coil.
WHY A LOCAL SHOP
When the roof panels, the wall panels, and the edge metal all come off the same coil in the same shop, the colors line up. Order the standing seam, the coping, and the siding from three different suppliers and you can end up with three readings of the same color name, because each runs its own coil and its own batch.
Our shop forms Englert, Sheffield, and Drexmet material, so a panel and trim package leaves East Orange matched across the roof, the wall, and the perimeter.
A local shop also means you talk to the people who run the equipment. When you call about a profile or a special-color order, you reach the floor, not a regional desk three states away. If a detail on the drawing is unclear, we sort it before the metal is cut, and the lead time you are quoted is the lead time on our actual schedule, not an estimate from a call center.
Short hauls matter on metal. We deliver inside roughly 150 miles of East Orange, which covers Essex, Hudson, Union, and Bergen counties and the metro around them, and full-length panels travel a few hours rather than across the country, so there is less handling and less chance of an oil-can dent in transit. Pickup is open at the shop at 10-12 Hedden Place when you would rather run your own truck.
For a long run that is easier rolled at the building, on-site forming brings the roll former to the jobsite and the panels are cut to field measurements. That mix of short-haul delivery, shop pickup, and on-site forming is the practical reason contractors source their metal from a shop in the same metro rather than a mill order out of state.
WHO WE FABRICATE FOR
Pull a full panel and trim package for the job: standing seam in the profile your spec calls for, plus the coping, fascia, gutters, and flashing color-matched to it. Send the takeoff or the drawings and our sheet metal fabrication comes back as one order, finished to one color, cut to the lengths you need. On-site forming is there for the long runs, and pickup keeps you off the delivery schedule when the job moves fast.
One purchase order can cover the roof, the wall siding, and the edge metal off the same finished stock, so the envelope reads as one system and you are coordinating one fabricator instead of three. The order is quoted against the construction drawings, confirmed before anything is cut, and delivered inside the 150-mile radius or held for pickup. It slots in with the crew you already have on site.
When the spec names a profile, a 70% PVDF color, and a rated assembly, we fabricate to it and the manufacturer finish warranty carries with the Englert, Sheffield, or Drexmet coil. Owners self-installing a barn, an addition, or a repair get the same shop and the same color match as a contractor package. Send the spec section or a sample and we confirm we can meet it before the order goes to the floor.
ORDERING ACROSS THE LINES
Yes. Standing seam, siding, edge metal, soffit and fascia, and custom trim can ride on a single order, quoted line by line and fabricated from the same finished stock so the whole package matches. You send one spec or one set of drawings and one order produces the roof, the wall, and the perimeter.
That is the common order. A roofing contractor will pull a standing seam run, the coping and fascia to close the perimeter, and a handful of one-off pieces like scuppers or counter flashing, all on the same quote. We price each line separately and fabricate them together so they finish in the same color batch.
It will when the lines are ordered together. Pulling the panels, the siding, and the trim from the same finished stock keeps the 70% PVDF color consistent across the roof, the wall, and the perimeter. If you add a phase later, send the original color name or a sample and we match the new run to what is already on the building.
Yes, within the limits of how coatings weather. Give us the original Sheffield reference or a physical sample and we match the later run as close as the finish allows. Metal that has been up for years will have weathered, so we are honest about how close a match on aged metal will read before you order.
Either. Pickup at 10-12 Hedden Place in East Orange is open when you would rather run your own truck, and delivery is priced by jobsite address inside roughly 150 miles. The fabrication price is the same; the delivery line is what changes, which is why we ask for the jobsite address up front so the quote comes back complete.
Yes. Our shop runs in English and Portuguese, so you can send the spec, talk through a profile, and confirm a color in either language. Call (201) 306-5845 and we take the order in whichever one is easier for you.
Send the drawings or the spec sheet and we price the fabrication line by line, then roll it to your numbers. Delivery inside 150 miles or pickup at the East Orange shop.
